    Featured Players: Rock and Fan

Today’s Featured Players are two amazing ladies from Ghallanda, Anthios888 and Nomical, AKA Rock and Fan.

Here is what their nominator had to say about them: “The best thing about Rock and Fan, however, are their personalities. Every quest, raid, and adventure is full of laughs, jokes, and LOOT. Generous and gracious, Rock, Fan, and their guildmates are always willing to help out a guildie in need, whether it’s flagging, ingredients, or supplies.”

    JaggieWhere are you from?

We are from Omaha, Nebraska, home of the reuben sandwich and rocky road ice cream.

What do you do for a living?

Both of us are in AmeriCorps, which is a national service program. Sarah (Fan) works at the Civil Rights Commission in a neighboring town, where she organizes educational outreach and investigates civil rights claims. Anne (Rock) is an intake worker at the Salvation Army, where she helps with the food pantry program and heat aid, as well as coaching people with disabilities on work skills and job hunts.

This fall, we are moving to Chicago to start law school.

What do you like to do when you are not playing DDO? Any interesting hobbies?

Not playing DDO? Uhh. Fan plays cello and Rock plays violin, but it’s hard to play and raid at the same time.

What is the last book you read? What is your favorite?

Last book: Mistborn.  Favorite is really hard to say. We both love reading, but tend to fight over books (Fan owes Rock the 2nd book in Mistborn trilogy omg)

What was the last movie you saw? What is your favorite?

Last movie: It’s Complicated. Can’t pick a favorite, but in general we tend to stay away from most action movie/blockbuster garbage

What kind of music do you like to listen to?

All kinds. Techno, Belle & Sebastian, Pulp, oldies, classical.

Did you ever play the Pen and Paper version of D&D? Which editions?

We played a couple games of 4th edition D&D, but we like the online version waaay better.

How did you get interested in DDO?

Our friend Dejafu got us six-month subscriptions for Rock’s 21st birthday.  By renewal time, we were hooked.

How did you choose your character’s name?

Rachna and Fantazmal, our first characters, were our characters in a role-playing text-based MUD that we played for years.

    Rock Fan

    What race/class is your favorite?

We have lots of fun characters, but battleclerics are the best! Fun, versitile, great for pushing the limits Our battleclerics are Fanfare and Rocka. Fanfare is a human two weapon fighting khopesh battlecleric. Rocka’s currently a dwarf greataxe build, soon to be a warforged favored soul.

What server do you play on?

    Ghallanda FTW. Best drama around.

Are you a member of a guild? Which one?

GRR for the win! We formed Ghallanda ReRolled last August. We were originally supposed to be called Go Go Go Girls until we realized it would freak out the guys (not to mention the moderators)

    Do you like to raid?

Absolutely! GRR is a raiding guild. Since we formed, we’re usually the first on Ghallanda big enough to take out the raids on opening night. The best part of raiding, though, is the social aspect. It’s great to get to hang out with 10 other people, singing the Pokémon song in unison.

What do you think is the coolest-looking place in DDO?

The vale is gorgeous. So is the desert at night.

    Comtemplating the Moon

Do you quest with people you know, a pick up group, or brave it alone? All of the above?

We have an awesome guild and a great channel of affiliated people. So, we usually run with people we know. But we enjoy opening it up to a few pugs when we have space, or jump in a random LFM. We don’t solo too much, but we’ve had a few “dates” duoing quests.

Do you use any clickie items? What kind are must-haves in your inventory?

Gotta have stoneskin, greater heroism, jump, solid fog, and raise dead clickies. Teleport for characters without UMD. Devotion/Freeze/Inferno clickies from Tower for anyone who can use ‘em.

Do you have a favorite snack to eat when you are playing DDO?

    Chocolate. Red wine’s good, too

What is the funniest thing you have ever heard in general chat?

Don’t usually pay too much attention to general chat, because it kills brain cells.

Ever had an embarrassing party wipe?

Of course! It takes some pain to get better.

We had a couple really painful ones when we were first learning the Abbot about a year ago. We would be in there for as much as six hours going after completions, so wipes were painful and plentiful.

One time, when we’d first started completing puzzles, we had a birthday cake resurrection shrine up. The run went so badly that we were in there for over an hour - the Abbot’s mantle had dropped so we just had to put a firewall on him and wait til he died. Except that our sorc had dropped group and we just had a wizard with no mana. Everyone’s stuff was totally broken, we all had about 100 hp when we rezed up and we were desperately trying to pass more mana pots to the wizard. Eventually, with about 1% life left, we had rezed up and gotten encased so many times that the whole rez shrine was covered with rocks and we couldn’t rez up anymore. Talk about good motivation to finish learning the end fight legit!

If you could hang out in real-life with any of the NPC’s from the game who would you choose? Why?

One of the farshifters. I’d really like to learn how to wave my hands and port from place to place. Airplanes and road trips are overrated.

What’s your favorite Adventure Pack or quest chain?

Hrm, it’s between Necropolis and Desert.

Ladies, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules for our interview.  See you in game!
