Hello everyone, and welcome to the sixth episode of “Crafting with…Courtney!” I’m here to make crafting fun, easy, and good for you!
Personally, I find mold to be kind of creepy. There’s something about all of that magic in the air that can turn an ugly spot of icky stuff in the corner into a downright dangerous ooze or slime! That’s why this week we’re going to make a weapon that takes care of unsightly oozes, and also works great against rust monsters!
The most difficult thing about oozes and rust monsters is their ability to quickly destroy weapons, which is why it’s important to either have a weapon like a Muckbane (which is made of glass, and can’t be corroded), or a weapon with an Everbright bonus! Cannith crafting makes getting an Everbright weapon easy!
Today’s weapon is called Gallagher’s Maul. It’s an Acid Maul of Everbright that can be made even more powerful as you level up!
For the Acid Shard you will need:
For the Shard of Everbright you will need:
You will also need a craftable maul, of course!
To make Gallagher’s Maul:

That’s it! However, I’d like to take a bit of time today to explain how you can use Cannith Crafting to make your item more powerful as you level up!
Notice the minimum level of the Acid Maul of Everbright; because this weapon does not have an enhancement bonus on it, the minimum level is quite low. This is great for when you are level 5 and need the best weapon you can get to squish oozes and rust monsters! However, eventually you will want to increase the enhancement bonus on the weapon to make it easier to hit higher-level oozes and rust monsters (and do more damage at the same time, since enhancement bonuses increase both attack and damage!)
The key thing to remember is is that increasing your enhancement bonus will significantly increase the minimum level of a weapon, but will also keep the weapon useful at higher levels! I like to make an item for low-level questing, then increase it sometime around or after level 10 for higher-level adventuring.
In this case, let’s add a +3 enhancement bonus to the maul. Since the Acid Shard adds +1 to the enchantment level of the weapon, and Everbright adds +2, the total enchantment bonus for the low-level weapon is a mere +3! However, if you add a +3 enhancement bonus to the weapon, that will increase the total enchantment level to +6. This means that you will need to use a Shard of Potential in order to be able to add +3 to the weapon.
To add a +3 enhancement bonus to our Acid Maul of Everbright you will need a +3 Enhancement Spirit, a +3 Enhancement Bonus Shard, and a +6 Shard of Potential.
To make the +3 Enhancement Spirit you will need:
To make the +3 Enhancement Bonus Shard you will need:
To make the +6 Shard of Potential you will need:
Here’s how to add the bonus to your Acid Maul of Everbright:

This maul will keep you smashing oozes and rust monsters throughout your adventuring career! Keep in mind that a maul is a martial weapon, so if you are not proficient with martial weapons you will want to make this item using a simple weapon like a club instead.
I hope you enjoyed this installment of “Crafting with…Courtney!” If you would like to see a recipe card of Gallagher’s Maul, click here! Don’t forget to click here as well to check out our entire Crafting Cookbook in the DDO Compendium!

The maul is pretty interesting for a lowbie. I am normally done with Dirk’s and most of the harbor before 5th level but it would be useful in the Water Works.
That said, I can not think of a reason I would invest much in an everbright weapon for level 11.

I would think Everbright at higher levels would primarily be for Rust Monsters.

Hey Courtney, I made a +1 Acid Maul of Everbright but now I want to turn it into a +3 Acid Maul of Everbright. How can I do that?

Rusties are immune to acid, are they not?
Personally I’d prefer to put Vicious on an anti-Ooze weapon. Sure you’ll do a little damage to yourself, but rusties and oozes are usually things you want dead ASAP and they hit hard, so Vicious might save you hitpoints if it lets you kill the ooze/rusty before it can do as much damage to you.

Not the best weapon, but I enjoy the read and the tips. Keep up these blogs

Thanks for the continued updates.
Since most oozes are immune to acid, wouldn’t it be better to start with a +1 or +2 maul of everbright and add the acid part later as you are high enough level to use it?
For Oozes I use a pure law of everbright. Not a lot of lawfully aligned oozes out there.

Thanks everyone for the comments! I just wanted to address the ooze immunity thing, as we looked into this while writing, and found a great chart by a player named Depravity that was posted a while back.
In it you will see the type of ooze and its immunity; we considered adding this chart to the post, but ultimately decided the article was long enough. Here’s a link to the chart: http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=3545028&postcount=1
In terms of acid immunity for rusties, d’oh! Perhaps a property like Vicious described above would be better, particularly if the ongoing damage wasn’t an issue for you. This weapon will still be good against Oozes, but yeah, maybe not so much against Rust Monsters (while it will not take damage, the immunity to acid will mean it will do less damage than something else against Rust Monsters.)
I also just wanted to take a second to plug the Cookbook! If you’ve got an even better weapon against Oozes and Rust Monsters (or anything else), please consider adding the recipe to our cookbook!

there are still nasty rusties in higher lvl quests. Like the ones in Rainbow in the dark. or if you want to fight a real nasty the Name rusty in Epic VON 5.! But i would suggest a +5 Greater ozze bane of everbright! just to point out there is a use for high lvl ooze killers if you want
I liked the reading keep it up

Greater bane is a suffix effect. Meaning it won’t go on a weapon that already has everbright.
