Hello everyone, and welcome to the twentieth episode of “Crafting with…Courtney!” I’m here to make crafting fun, easy, and good for you!
Sometimes crafting your own item will give it a lower minimum level than you’d find “in the wild”, and when that happens, it’s a recipe for crafting success! Rogues in particular will enjoy the benefits of crafting their own trapsmithing items, since many of them fall under this category!
Today’s recipe is a simple and plain Ring of Disabling +10 called Trapper Keeper! Nothing fancy, but it’s great due to its relatively low minimum level. Finding a “plain” version of this ring will give you a nice item with a minimum level of 9, but when crafted, it has a minimum level of 7! The same goes for Search and Spot items as well.
Remember, to determine the minimum level of an item in Cannith Crafting, add up the enchantment levels of the shards you put into the item, multiple that number by two, and then subtract one. So, a Disable Device +10 has an enchantment level of 4:
4×2=8, 8-1=7!
To make Trapper Keeper you will need:

Also, Disable Device is a suffix property that can be placed onto a helmet/hat, goggles, cloak, ring, bracers, trinket, necklace, gloves, belt, or boots. That’s a lot of options! I like to make +10 Disable Device and Search rings, then swap them out when it comes time to find a trap and disable it, but whatever works for you!
I hope you enjoyed this installment of “Crafting with…Courtney!” If you would like to see a recipe card of Trapper Keeper, click here! Don’t forget to click here as well to check out our entire Crafting Cookbook in the DDO Compendium!

For players in a guild, Gloves with a guild slot would be the ideal item to craft for disabling and open lock providing an additional +1/+2/+3/+4 guild bonus from vendor purchased tiny/small/medium/large Augment Crystals.
Drawbacks are no search facility in the Auction house for items with guild slots; over priced crafting blanks in the AH and the fact the crystals do not stack so need replenishing every 6 hours but if you are wanting to boost your trapsmithing as much as possible then gloves are optimal should you aquire them; especially if your Intelligence item is a ring.
Don’t forget +5 tools (providing +7 to the check) can be used at level 1.

Any method of obtaining loot with lower Minimum Levels is well worth learning. Thanks

Good point, Smitey, and good advice! I just get used to using my ring slot as a “swappable” slot, but if you like guild augment slots, the gloves would be a good match for sure.

Suggestion for a future item:
‘The Phantasmal Killer’
Bracers (can also be a ring)
Greater Illusion Focus

Nice suggestion, will add it to our list!
